Communicative Skills for Portfolio

Communicative Skills for Portfolio

This paper reflects my opinion about the course and what I learn from the start until the end of it and I will give my opinion by answering these questions.

The course start to be interesting in the last two reports that we handle, and we have the choice to choose our topics and start digging for the information about it and to be honest I really have a lot of information when I did these reports. Now I jump to what is the least did I liked and this is the start that I did in this course.   I improve my writing to a better level than before and I also learn how to do a good bibliography for my reports.   What I gather from this course will help me in the rest of my college years and we will have a lot of writing to make and this course will be the reason to make my reports better and better.   We face a lot of challenges but what are the biggest to me is how to keep my information refresh and update it to a better level of writing, and with the information I have I could move to a new level of writing in the future.  One thing can be done to fix any weakness and its practice and never do the same mistake in another time.   My recommendation to this course if anyone want to improve their writing they must have this course with this much of information to know how to start a good writing and as I said “This is your gate to a another level of writing”.

Thank you Mr. Gregory.

Nigeria Fossil Fuel

Nigeria Fossil Fuel
Introduction:
Energy is something that everyone needs and without the energy nobody can do anything or make any changes. This is what the fossil fuel represents and it represents the energy. The fossil fuels are created by the natural processes such as anaerobic decay of buried dead organisms. Some people don't know that after millions of years the organisms becomes fossil fuel, sometime they go beyond 650 million years. The fossil fuels have a high percentage of carbon and involve coal, natural gas, and petroleum (Fossil fuel - Wikipedia 2013). The fossil fuel get a lot of money, but what we forget is that it's also bring a lot of problems with it. There is a problem when we get the fossil fuel from the ground, when we also burn fossil fuels. The threat of climate change has made it clear that we are going to have some problems with reducing emissions that we produce (The Problem with Fossil Fuels, 2013).  As said, “fossil fuel is one time energy present to the human race” (Non-renewable energy, Fossil Fuel, 2013). As we know that when the fossil fuel created it took millions of years to be ready for us, the time will come when it finishes and it will take another million of years. The problem that we use this energy source as it will be gone after time. Another problem is that, we make our wealth and economy on something cheap (Non-renewable energy, Fossil Fuel, 2013). The biggest problem is that we don't have any preparation to be move over to renewal energy sources. A lot of people think, are there any Alternatives to fossil fuel or not? There are a lot of sources to the fossil fuel but the problem is that we put everything depending on the fossil fuel at this time.

Energy solutions:
For the coming future we need a lot of energy solutions that will replace the fossil fuel when it starts to vanish. There is a lot of alternative sources are used widely. Hydroelectric and also nuclear energy factories provide a large part of the world power (Alternatives to Fossil Fuels, 2013). Other sources are involved solar energy, wind power and water power (Alternatives to Fossil Fuels, 2013). People consider the nuclear energy one of the biggest solutions for the replacement of the fossil fuel. Nuclear power uses sustained nuclear fission to generate heat electricity (Nuclear power, 2013). The nuclear factories provided an almost 6% of the world energy and 13% of the world's electricity (Nuclear power, 2013). They want the nuclear to be used in generating electricity. Nuclear energy needs to be harnessed directly to the processes such as hydrogen production or desalination, above the general role of generating electricity (Sustainable Energy, 2011). People consider as the most clean alternative power and this is maybe the perfect way to replace the fossil fuel solar power. The solar power considered as the best energy that is available, that is an opinion from an environmental perspective. As they say, "a1.5 kilowatt PV system will keep more than 100,000 pounds of carbon dioxide from been released" (Sustainable Energy, 2011). The carbon dioxide is the reason for the greenhouse effect, and solar power will keep it out of the atmosphere over the next 25 years (Sustainable Energy, 2011). Our need to burn 60,000 pounds of coal will be prevented by the solar system as we need. With this power there will be no acid rain, no urban smog, and the most important to pollutions of any kind (Fossil fuel - Wikipedia 2013). If we think that is the only energy that is useful power we will be wrong. One of the most important powers is the wind energy. A lot of people start to admit that wind energy is one of the most tangible and promising new source of energy that consider as an alternative to fossil fuels generated electricity. Since 1999, wind energy capacity reached 10,000 megawatts, which is considered as 16 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Case Study (Country):
Which country that has a good impact in the fossil fuel field better than Nigeria? Nigeria is positioned number 9 among 36 countries (Orogun, P. S, 2009). Above all this, Nigeria is a country that has a high population and they consider it as the most populous nation in the area. More than 90% of the country’s external revenues come from the crude oil exports. With all this even the non-oil producing sectors are started to show significant revenue generating capabilities (Orogun, P. S, 2009). As numbers we know a country like Nigeria has a high population and this population has about forty ethnics groups and there are more than 30 million people who reside in the greater Niger Delta region (Orogun, P. S, 2009). What Nigeria depends on is the natural gas. The gas is the first source in Nigeria for living and for economy. Nigeria tries to use a lot of sources to replace the petrol or gas is specific word or to make them as a secondary sources. Nigeria try to use sources that will not be disappear now or in the future, such as solar, hydro, wind and biomass (Ohunakia, O. S, 2010). What considers the alternative energy is the solar power. The solar power is a clean energy and they want use it at home to help the man's survival into this century and beyond (Nigeria Alternative Energy, 2013).  Nigeria has a future plan to use 7 percent of the renewal energy by 2025 and this is a very proactive commitment. A fact that, 60 percent of the Nigerian people they are not connected to the national grid (Okanlawon, L, 2012). This step will take Nigeria to a high standard of living and will give them the freedom to find other sources that will help because they don’t need to be careful about the limits of these sources. The renewable sources will take many years to be finished or start to disappear.

The lighthouse of Alexandria

Individual Assignment LSC 2103-Outline
The lighthouse of Alexandria

Introduction:
Around the world there were a lot of amazing things, but the most amazing were the seven wonders. One of the magnificent seven wonders was the lighthouse of Alexandria. The lighthouse was the only one in her time and unique forever. This wonderful lighthouse stood for centuries sending lights reflected from the curiosities mirror.  The Lighthouse was built around 280 BC, 117m in height and stood for 1,500 years (Lighthouse of Alexandria. (n.d.)). The lighthouse was built after the death of the Great Alexander, and the first (Ptolemy l soter) announced himself the king in 305 BC. The building finished in the region of his son the second Ptolemy (Ptolemy II Philadelphus) (Lighthouse of Alexandria - Wikipedia 2013). This lighthouse was the first lighthouse in the history (Lighthouse of Alexandria. (n.d.)). The lighthouse was built to guide the sailor, into the port (Lighthouse of Alexandria - Wikipedia 2013). This lighthouse impressed the scientist and also it was used to detect the ships and attack them before they reached the coast (Lighthouse of Alexandria. (n.d.)).

How it was build and by whom?
According to Plutarch, Alexander had a dream, which he was told to look for the small island of Pharos, this island stand on the coast of ancient Egypt (Contributors, H. (n.d.)). He choose Ptolemy I soter on the generals, to protect this island. Ptolemy made his mind, Pharos needed a distinctive to recognize it, both verbatim and nominal, the coast was hard to be finding (Contributors, H. (n.d.)). This lighthouse was built by the ancient Egyptians. It was built and designed by Sostratus of Knidos (The Lighthouse of Alexandria. (n.d.)). This island was built in the ancient Egyptian in a small island of Pharos just off the coast Nile Delta’s western edge.

History:
This historical building took a lot of time to be built. After 12 years, the great lighthouse had been build even after the death of Alexandria by a fever at the age 32 years old. As the history was far even the money wasn’t the same (Lighthouse of Alexandria - Wikipedia 2013). This lighthouse cost 800 talents and bars of silver; this will be counted in our time as 3 million Dollars (Contributors, H. (n.d.)). They wondered what kind of materials they use. Egyptians used stone blocks of white marble mortar attached to each other with lead mortar. The first floor was a 6 meter high stone platform; it was almost was 73 meters in height and 30 meters square at the base, and was shaped like a massive box. The front door in the ground floor was part way up to 183 meters long ramp supported by huge arches.  Into this part of the structure was a large helical ramp, which allowed materials to be dragged to the top in animal-drawn carts. At the head of the first section tower was eight- sided, which was about 35 meters in length. On the upper part of the tower was the cylinder which was Connects up to 18 meters into an open dome where the fire that provided light burned. On the surface of the dome was a large statue, as they say maybe this is the god of the sea, Poseidon (The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The Pharos Lighthouse. (n.d.)). The main architect for the project was a man called Sostratus. Full calculations were finished at the famous Library of Alexandria (The Lighthouse of Alexandria. (n.d.)).

Evaluation:
This lighthouse has a lot of earthquakes one of them in 965 AD and the other one was in 1323 AD. However, nothing can be stand forever because of the series earthquakes the lighthouse Alexandria was destroyed in 1480AD. Even with the destroying of the lighthouse, a team of divers search the Mediterranean Sea and they found some of the remains from the lighthouse (Contributors, H. (n.d.)). Even with the found that those divers found people still think that this is maybe not true because some of the findings were from an earlier are and from an older building. They think that some of the stones from the lighthouse were used to build a fortress on the island that still Existed in the current time (The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The Pharos Lighthouse. (n.d.)).

Conclusion:
In the end of this report, even with the earthquakes that attack the lighthouse of Alexandria, after 1500 years it was the last one who stood from a six wonders. This lighthouse represents the first lighthouse in the world not only as a lighthouse, but as magnificent building in the past in the present.

Is Mars the key to our origins?

Is Mars the key to our origins?

Nasa’s Rover had a journey for eight months across the deep hole of space. The last mission for Nasa was a huge victory. Nasa is happy, because they learned the hard way and the best to reach the Red Planet. However, almost half of the first 14 probes fall ailed before they sent any information. Overall, the last seven missions for Nasa were a successful. They have a question about the mystery two probes that happen in 1970’s. “In April 2012 Dr. Levin co-authored a study to analysis again about the original Viking results and they found that it’s agreement with the existence life” (Matthews, R. 2012). Now, they want to know about the organic molecules linked to the life. Biologists discovered prions – ‘infectious proteins’ that make copies of themselves without the need for genes (and which cause mad cow disease and a range of similar, deadly ailments) (Matthews, R. 2012). They think that the alien life have something in common with life in earth.

Emirates job Seekers

Emirates job Seekers
The survey and the private sectors said that a lot of Emirates youth care about money and benefits. In the other hand they said that youth put skills over the salary. Sulaf said” in the last Tawdheef Recruitment Show, there were more than 2500 jobs in the private and government sectors were vacancies up for grabs (Zaman, S., & Sabry, S. 2013). We quote, the youth must be in the center or no goals can be achieved. 70 per cent in the forum said that the private sector doesn’t serve a good enough to the Emirates and they demand a lot more than government. Employers “they can’t hire Emirates because they demand a lot of money”. The work in private more is challenging for promotion and recognition.
